Shear Series – Part 1: Opening New Dog Grooming Shears
The Shear Company’s we show you are just a few of the many wonderful shear company’s available to groomers today. These shears just happen to be the ones we have enjoyed using at Maltese Obsession Grooming. The BEST way to buy shears to go try and test them out at a dog show to see how they FEEL and FIT in your hands. The THUMB sizes can be fit to your thumb size using inserts to make the thumb hold smaller if you have slender fingers. Working with profession shear manufacturers provides you with shear sharpening and a higher quality of customer service. Check out dog grooming shows like GROOMEXPO, GROOMEXPOWEST, SUPERZOOM, Intergroom as these big dog shows will also host many of the shear manufacturers.
Chris Christensen Shears have been in our hands since we first learned to groom. We started out with the Celestial Series. Our favorites in the series are the Celestial 4.5″ Pixi CURVED Shear. Our favorite Chris Christensen Thinner/Blenders are the 6.0″ inches MERLYN Blenders/Thinners These are usually less expensive via Cherrybrook Pet Supplies at $78 currently on sale vs the $140 price on the Chris Christensen website. Great deal to get these Chris Christensen Shears via Cherybrook.
Sensei SWVL Shears in the video have the swiveling rotating thumb and are pretty pricey, but well worth the price. I picked up the 3 shears (1 Straight 7 Inch, Curved 7 inch and Chunkers) via a Grooming Show Special directly through Sensei These thinners come in 25 teeth, 37 teeth or 57 teeth. Each have a different use for pro-groomer and we won’t confuse the issue by talking about the differences in this particular post.
You can get these shears directly from the SENSEI website or you can go via AMAZON and I’ve added the links below.
The Kenchii Shears that we opened in this video are the Kenchii FIVE STAR Series, one of the more affordable lines they carry. These can be purchased directly via Kenchii or via Amazon. We have NOT YET tested these shears out to say whether we would recommend them or not. WE ARE IN NO WAY ENDORSING the Kenchii line of shears as a good trial use of these babies are needed before we can determine whether they are worth their price tag (even though they are probably one of the least expensive shears in the Kenchii line).
If you are NEW to grooming, then you can look for less expensive shears to start out. We recommend lengths from 4.5″ – 7″ maximum. A great starter set is 1 STRAIGHT, 1 CURVED and 1 BLENDER/THINNER. While less expensive STRAIGHTS and CURVES can work just fine, it is pretty hard to find good blenders that don’t bend hair (YUCK) ~~~ so a cheap blender will DAMAGE a good coat, so don’t waste even $30 on a cheap blender…..just sayin’ **<(^.^)>**

Many people had requested a video showing you how we put up Cosette’s hair for the Black and White photo.
It is VERY IMPORTANT to NEVER include any of the EAR LEATHER when doing any type of hairstyles. We ALWAYS check to ensure that ZERO SKIN is in any tied up hair, therefore only HAIR is banded.
The necklaces, and some of the hair accessories are sold in our MOBLING store.
Happy Easter to all of our friends. We appreciate every one of our friends we have made through our Maltese Obsession journey. We share with you a little video EASTER GIFT basket, where the Team MO girls dress up in their Easter finest and show you ‘LIFE at Team MO’
We did have two camera’s rolling when we shaped Pinky’s face, and we hope to share a full video of how we gave Pinky her Pretty Princess Seoul Transformation as we performed a modernized Korean cut on her TINY Maltese face. The 2 different angles of the camera hopefully captured some of the cutting action. In the meantime, you can enjoy a few shots of her in this SHORT SNEAK PEAK video. The BEAUTIFUL ANGEL IN THE top right hand corner is my daughter and Artistic and Musical Director for Maltese Obsession. She is performing a cello piece accompanied by her piano teacher. It is a sweet haunting ‘FAREWELL’ as Pinky says her farewell to her long beard and OLD style!
